Free art watermark tool

Watermark your artwork for free

Protect the art you share online. Add your signature, name or logo as a visible watermark and hide an invisible watermark that links the image back to you.

Invisible watermark

A hidden code in the pixels that survives resizing, compression, screenshots and crops. Anyone can check an image on this page to see when it was watermarked, and your Markmy profile once you link it.

Visible watermark

Put your name, signature or logo on the image. Everyone sees it, so it discourages reposting without credit.

Copyright metadata

Marks the file as copyrighted and not for AI training in its EXIF and XMP data. Location and camera data are removed.

How to watermark your art

  1. Add your images

Choose up to 20 artwork photos. We never store them.

  2. Add hidden protection

  3. Add visible watermark

  4. Download and share

Download the watermarked images, or a zip of all of them, ready to post.

Three layers of protection in one pass

Each layer does a different job, so they work best together.

  • Visible watermark

Your name, signature or logo on the image. It tells everyone who made the work and discourages casual reuse.

  • Invisible watermark

A hidden code that survives resizing, compression, screenshots and crops. Anyone can check it on this page to see when the image was watermarked and by which Markmy artist.

  • Copyright metadata

A copyright notice and a “not for AI training” flag written into the file’s EXIF and XMP data, where sites and search engines read it.

FAQ

Watermarking questions

How do I watermark my art?

Add your artwork images to this tool, keep the invisible watermark and copyright metadata switched on, add a visible watermark (your name, signature or logo) if you want one, and download. It takes a minute and needs no account or software.

Is this watermark tool free?

Yes. Watermarking up to 20 images at a time is free, with no account and no Markmy branding on your images.

Are my images uploaded?

Only to add or check the invisible watermark. Visible watermarks and copyright metadata are added in your browser. For the invisible watermark, each image is sent securely to our server, watermarked and sent straight back, and the checker sends a small copy. We never store your images.

For each invisible watermark we keep only a small record: the code, the date and any name you add. We keep it permanently so the watermark always resolves.

What is an invisible watermark?

An invisible watermark is a code hidden in the pixels of an image. You can’t see it, but software can read it back, even after the image is resized, compressed or screenshotted. Markmy’s invisible watermark links each image to a record of when it was watermarked and, once linked, the artist’s Markmy profile.

Does a watermark protect my art from AI?

Not on its own. A watermark shows who made an image and when, and the “not for AI training” metadata states your wishes in a standard form, but neither can stop a company from training on a public image. Tools such as Glaze alter images to disrupt AI style mimicry, which is a different technique.

A watermark still helps: it makes your authorship visible, and it gives you evidence if your work is reposted without credit.

Where should I put a watermark on my art?

Place a visible watermark over part of the artwork rather than in an empty corner, where it is easy to crop out. Keep it small and semi-transparent so the work still reads well. For high-value images, a light tiled watermark is the hardest to remove.

Can an invisible watermark be removed?

It survives everyday changes such as resizing, JPEG compression, format conversion, screenshots and moderate cropping. Cropping away most of the image, strong filters or deliberate removal tools can destroy it, and strong repeating patterns such as stripes can hide it, so keep your original files as your strongest proof.

How do I check whether an image has a watermark?

Open “Check an image” on this page and add the image. The tool reads any Markmy invisible watermark and the file’s copyright metadata, and shows when it was watermarked and by which Markmy artist.

How does the invisible watermark link an image to me?

Each image gets its own code that points to a record on Markmy. The record holds the date the image was watermarked and, if you add one, the name you typed, shown as unverified.

To show your verified artist profile instead, link a free Markmy account: before downloading (your images wait in this browser while you sign up), right after downloading, or later from the same browser, which remembers your watermarks. Only a real Markmy account can appear as the verified owner. Keep your original files too: they are your strongest proof.

Does the tool remove location data?

Yes. Watermarked files are re-encoded without their original EXIF data, so GPS location and camera details are removed. Only a copyright notice and the “not for AI training” flag are added back.
